Keyword triggers

Auto reply to the comments that matter, ignore the rest

Under a post that did numbers there are three kinds of comment: people who want the thing, people tagging a friend, and forty fire emoji. A keyword trigger tells the automation which is which, so the buyers get answered in seconds and nobody else gets messaged at all.

Short answer

A keyword trigger fires your automation when a comment contains a word you chose. Matching is case insensitive and works inside longer sentences. You can match a single word, a list, every comment on the post, or a regular expression.

Four ways to match

One keyword

The classic. LINK, GUIDE, PRICE. Matching ignores case and finds the word inside a longer sentence, so "guide please 🙏" counts.

A list of words

People do not type what you told them to type. Cover price, cost, how much, and the ones you keep seeing in your own comments.

Every comment

On a giveaway or a launch post, answer everyone. Good when the post itself is the filter and any comment means interest.

A regular expression

For when you need precision: a code format, a size, a city name. Available on the same trigger when a plain word list is not enough.

Three things can start it

Comments

The main one. Someone comments on a post you chose, or on any post on the account.

Direct messages

Someone messages your keyword. Useful for FAQ style replies and for restarting a conversation.

Mentions

Someone tags you. Fires an automation off the mention rather than off a comment thread.

What makes a keyword actually get typed

Say the keyword out loud in the video

Text on screen is skimmed. The comment count jumps when the word is spoken and then shown, because people act while they are still watching.

Use one word, not a phrase

Every extra word is a chance to typo it. A short word also reads well in the caption and in the reply you leave under the comment.

Give each offer its own keyword

Then the keyword breakdown in analytics tells you which offer people actually want, rather than merging them into one number.

Leave the public reply on

A visible "Sent you a DM ✓" under the first comment teaches everyone else what to do. The comments become the instructions.

Questions people ask first

Is keyword matching case sensitive?

No. GUIDE, Guide and guide all match the same trigger, and the word is found inside a longer comment rather than needing to be the whole message.

Can one post have more than one keyword?

Yes. Run several automations on the same post, each with its own keyword and its own DM. A comment matching two of them is handled once per automation.

What happens to comments that do not match?

Nothing at all. They are not replied to, not messaged, and not counted as a send. Only matches cost a credit.

Can I automate every post at once?

Yes. Leave the post unset and the automation listens across the account, which is what most people do for an evergreen keyword like PRICE.

Does it reply publicly as well?

If you want it to. The public reply and the DM are separate switches, so you can send only the DM, only the comment reply, or both.

Find out which keyword pays

Every keyword gets its own row in analytics, with DMs sent and clicks next to each other. The word you assumed would win usually is not the one that does.
