The ManyChat alternative built just for Instagram

ManyChat is the default answer when someone asks how to automate Instagram DMs. It's been around since 2015, it has a huge template library, and every second YouTube tutorial recommends it. None of that makes it the right tool for you.

Here's the thing most reviews skip: ManyChat was built for Facebook Messenger. Instagram support came later, and it shows. The flow builder assumes you're running multi-step chatbot funnels across Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS, email and Instagram at once. If all you want is "someone comments LINK, they get my link in their DMs," you're paying for and navigating around four platforms you don't use.

What you actually need for Instagram

Most creators automate three things:

  1. A keyword reply on comments. Someone comments a trigger word, they get a DM with your link.
  2. Story reply automation. Someone replies to your story, they get a response.
  3. Keyword replies in DMs themselves.

That's it. Not a 40-node funnel with conditions, tags, and SMS fallbacks. If your use case fits that list, a focused tool does the job with far less setup.

Where ManyChat gets expensive

ManyChat's free plan covers up to 1,000 contacts. Sounds generous until you learn that every person who ever triggered your automation counts as a contact, forever, unless you manually prune the list. A single Reel that does decent numbers can push you past 1,000 in a weekend.

After that you're on Pro, which starts around $15 a month and climbs with your contact count. The price isn't outrageous, but you're paying for contact storage you don't need if you never message those people again. (Pricing changes, so check their site for current numbers.)

How autoreplyig is different

autoreplyig does Instagram. Only Instagram. That single decision changes almost everything about how the product works:

PlatformsIG, Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS, emailInstagram only
Setup time30 to 60 minutes for a first flowA few minutes
Pricing modelPer contact, grows with list sizeFlat, no contact-based billing
Flow builderFull node graph, steep learning curveKeyword rules, plain forms

API complianceOfficial Meta APIOfficial Meta API, verified Meta Business Partner

Both tools use the official Instagram messaging API, so neither will get your account banned for using unofficial automation. The difference is what sits on top of that API: a general chatbot platform, or a tool shaped around the three things Instagram creators actually do.

Whatever tool you pick, avoid anything that asks for your Instagram password. Password-based bots operate outside Meta's API and are the main reason accounts get action-blocked. More on this in our guide to what Meta actually allows.

When ManyChat is still the better choice

Honesty time. Pick ManyChat if:

  • You run automation on WhatsApp or Messenger too, and want one dashboard for all of it.
  • You need complex conditional flows: quizzes, multi-step lead qualification, drip sequences.
  • You want the agency ecosystem. Thousands of freelancers build ManyChat flows for a living, so hiring help is easy.

If none of those apply, you're carrying a general-purpose platform's complexity for a single-platform job.

Try the focused approach

Connect your Instagram account, set a keyword, write your reply. That's the whole setup. If it doesn't cover what you need, you've lost five minutes and can go build the big funnel elsewhere.
