Follow guard

Follow to unlock: auto-DM the link to followers only

Keyword giveaways bring in people who take the freebie and scroll on. The follow guard asks for the follow first, checks it against Instagram, and only then hands over what you promised.

How it works

1

Switch it on

One toggle on any DM automation. Write the message non-followers see, or keep the default wording.

2

They get asked, not blocked

The gate message goes out with an "I followed" button attached. Nothing is lost and nothing is silent, so they know exactly what to do.

3

We verify, then deliver

Tapping the button re-checks with Instagram. If the follow is real, the DM you wrote goes out with its links, buttons and follow-ups intact.

It is a real check

Instagram's messaging API reports whether a person follows your account. We ask it before the gate, and again the moment they tap the button. Tapping “I followed” without following does not release anything, so the gate cannot be talked past.

The re-check deliberately ignores the answer from a minute earlier. Someone who just followed would otherwise be told they hadn't, which is the one way this feature could feel broken.

Where it stops

After three failed taps it stops asking and leaves the door open: “message me any time once you've followed”. Nagging a stranger is how automations get reported.

If Instagram does not answer, the DM goes out anyway. A guard that silently swallowed links whenever an API call failed would cost you more than the occasional non-follower slipping through.

On comment automations the public reply still posts either way. Only the DM waits on the follow. Withholding the reply would punish everyone reading the post for one person's choice.

What people use it for

Lead magnets

The guide, the checklist, the template. The thing people most often take without following.

Launch waitlists

Early access is worth a follow, and the people who give one are the people who show up on launch day.

Discount codes

A code that costs you margin should buy you an audience, not one transaction.

Giveaway entries

Enforce the entry condition you already wrote in the caption, instead of trusting it.

Stop giving it away for free

Add the guard to any DM automation in about ten seconds. Pair it with follow-ups and the people who never opened the link hear from you once more.
