Negative keywords and schedules for Instagram auto-replies

PRICE catches “what's the price?” and it also catches “no price talk please”. One of those people should get a DM. Negative keywords and date windows are how a rule fires less.

Your rule watches for PRICE.

How it works

1

Add the words that mean no

Anything containing one of them is skipped, even when your keyword is right there in the same sentence.

2

Set a window if it is seasonal

Launch automations run between two dates. Outside them the rule stays live but sends nothing.

3

Nothing else changes

Both live under Advanced on the automation, both default to off, and neither touches a rule you have already built.

A veto beats every match type

Negative keywords override match-all rules too, which is the whole point of having them there. “Reply to every message except the ones mentioning refunds” is a real thing people need, and it would be impossible if match-all ignored the exclusions.

Matching is on substrings, so PRICE catches pricing and prices without you listing them. That generosity is exactly why the exclusion list needs to exist.

Scheduling is not pausing

A scheduled rule outside its window still reads as live, with the window closed. It does not flip itself to paused. Otherwise next year you would find a switched-off automation and no idea whether that was deliberate.

An end date before the start would mean a rule that can never fire, so the end date is dropped on save and the editor warns you before it happens.

What people use it for

Refund and complaint words

The conversations that should reach a human, not an automation.

Competitor mentions

Stay out of threads where someone is comparing you to someone else.

Black Friday

A rule that starts Friday and dies Monday, without you remembering to switch it off.

Course launches

Doors open for a week. The automation should open and close with them.

Works with

Fire less, convert more

Both settings sit under Advanced on any automation. Pair with spam guard to keep the comment section clean while you are at it.
